Lady Vashj (pronunciation is somewhere between Vash and Vosh) was born in the city of Zin-Azshari, capital of the night elves, sometime before the War of the Ancients. Once chief among Queen Azshara's handmaidens, Vashj became one of the serpentine naga when Azshara and her followers were sent to the bottom of the sea during the Great Sundering.

At some point before the great sundering the City of Vashj'ir was her home.

Ten thousand years later, Vashj answered Illidan Stormrage's call and followed him first to Lordaeron, where she met up with Kael'thas Sunstrider and rallied his blood elves to Illidan's cause, and then to Outland when Illidan deposed Magtheridon as lord of the shattered world. As leader of Illidan's naga, Vashj and her followers set up shop in Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh, where the naga began to pump the lakes into their underground lair. During the Burning Crusade, adventurers invaded the Serpentshrine Cavern where Vashj made her lair and slew the Coilfang matron, her dying breath an apology to her master.

I would have liked to have seen more development of this character. She just kind of shows up out of nowhere in WCIII to help Kael'thas and Illidan without much motivation as to why.

Hey! It's the one who started crazy from the start of the three 'we went crazy for being in Outlands... for some reason' characters!

Her motivations where always a bit of a mistery... At the start it seems clear: cause a bit of chaos around so that when big multi-armed queen arrives it's easier forthem to take all Azeroth for themselves (I suppose except shouthern Kalimdor, though Ithink I would love to see desert naga). But then she starts to help elven princes and elves turned into demon thingies, and finally she seems to just care for her new allies. Maybe she just likes the underdog kind of people or something...

Anyway, as said in the comment just above, she is a sad case of character underdevelopment. But she is cool in her underdevelopness.
